Introduction
This is a landing page for “Data Visualization and Exploration” (STAT 4413/5413).
A MacGyver video? Really?
Yeah. This video, a minute in, is a great example of how we respond to “data” and how in some instances it so quickly becomes “information” and even “knowledge”. In this case the Geiger counter demonstrates a characteristic sound. It’s intuitive to those able to listen.
As something to think about, data sonification is an alternative to data visualization for those that are not as easily able to visualize.
This is meant to make you think. Is there a visual that would be as meaningful as the patten of clicks or beeps? How might that impact how you would share a graph with someone, especially someone who might not see it the way you do, or perhaps at all?
